Our efforts to help get the 1/2 mile of the West Fork of the Pigeon River below the Lake Logan dam designated as “Catch & Release” water fell short of the mark yesterday but still made a difference. The State Fish and Game Commission would not approve the C&R designation but they did decide to give this previously undesignated stretch of water a Public Mountain Trout Water designation. Starting 1 August, this change imposes creel limits, size limits and prohibits bait fishing on water that previously was completely unprotected. This is definitely a step in the right direction but obviously less than what we were hoping for. We will consult with our allies and work on a strategy to try again when the timing is right.
